Flexigum R
Two-Component Elastomeric Spray Applied Sealing Material for Roofs
Cat. No. 332
Flexigum R is a two- components elastomeric sealing material of the highest quality, to be applied by spraying.
Flexigum R is based on a special bitumen emulsion, enriched with high concentration polymeric latex of the highest quality. The polymeric latex endows Flexigum R with an especially high elasticity and resistance to a wide range of temperatures, as well as to U.V radiation.
Uses
Flexigum R is used for sealing concrete roofs, old bitumen/bitumen membranes roofs, old polyurethane/acrylic coated roofs.

Application
Surface preparation:
General:
Verify gutters fitness, flow slopes (at least 1.5%). Verify that wall-floor meeting cornersides are rounded. If not, apply cement mortar enriched with acrylic polymer (20% of the cement quantity), 1.5x1.5 cm in size, at any wall-floor meeting line.
Holes in the roof have to be filled with acryl polymer enriched cemented mortar as stated above.
On new concrete roofs:
Concrete's strength and stability have to be verified. Make sure drying concrete during 48 hours.
On roofs coated by bitumen sheets with aggregate coating:
All the open areas between the sheets and the substrate as well as open points between adjacent sheets have to be re-torched. Bitumen sheet patches have to be torched over existing holes and defects. Blisters have to be opened by making an X-shaped cut, letting dry for 24 hours and re-torching the sheet.
An additional sheet has to be torched overlapping by 20 cm beyond any cut in the existing sheet.
Loose aggregate grains have to be removed from the roof. The roof has to be rinsed with a high pressure water jet until left free of dust, then waiting until it is absolutely dry.
On roofs coated with old acrylic sealing material:
The coating's stability and good adhesion to the substrate have to be verified. Loose particles have to be removed.
The roof has to be rinsed with a high pressure water jet then waiting until it is absolutely dry.
On roofs coated with old polyurethane sealing material:
The coating's stability and good adhesion to the substrate have to be verified. Loose particles have to be removed; the roof has to be rinsed with a high pressure water jet then waiting until absolutely dry.
Performing of sealing layer:
FLEXIGUM R is supplied in 1000 kg containers or in 200 kg drums. FLEXIGUM R has to be thoroughly mixed in the container before use. The application of FLEXIGUM R is very easy and effective. After having placed the spraying machine and spread the hoses, the spraying process can start immediately.
Spraying is carried out through two nozzles. FLEXIGUM R is sprayed through one of them and the coagulant substance, in a water solution, is sprayed through the other.
In case of substrates as concrete, old bitumen or old bitumen memebranes, 300 gr/m2 of FLEXIGUM R are sprayed over the substrate without coagulant substance, as a primer coat. In case of substrates as old acrylic and old polyurethane coatings – No primer is sprayed.
Drying time: 1-2 hours depend on weather conditions.
In the second phase, FLEXIGUM R and the coagulant substance are sprayed simultaneously through two nozzles and the spraying fans of the two components meet in the air. The FLEXIGUM R coagulation at the instant of meeting the coagulant substance is immediate, obtaining a solid elastomeric bitumen layer and discharging clean water. The ratio between the coagulant and the FLEXIGUM will be 1:13-15.
Since a solid layer of FLEXIGUM R is created on the surface instantaneously, the required thickness can be attained in the course of continuous spraying.
The application of FLEXIGUM R can be carried out at temperatures higher than 7oC.
The typical thickness required on roofs is 3-4 mm, depending on the substrate condition and type.
After finishing application, the material has to be left for initial drying at least 3 days (a much longer waiting period, up to one month, may be applied).
Afterwards, the FLEXIGUM R surface has to be rinsed with water, left to dry and then spraying on it 250 gr/m2 "Multigum Primer MS". After a drying time of 1-2 hours, 800 gr/m2 of "FLEXIGUM TOP COAT" need be sprayed on the entire surface.
Covering Capacity
A Flexigum R dry layer of 1 mm thickness may be obtained from 1.75 kg/m² of liquid Flexigum R.
Drying Time
Minimum 5 days prior to application of "Flexigum Top Coat".
Packaging
1000 kg containers, 200kg drums.
Cleaning
The spraying gun should be cleaned in turpentine immediately after applying of Flexigum R.
Notes
- Flexigum R should not be stored in temperature lower than 5 ºC.
- Flexigum R should not be swallowed. Flexigum R should be kept away from children.
